TOTALENERGIES AFCON TROPHY TOUR IN GHANA
The TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations trophy arrived in Ghana in the late hours of Tuesday, November 16, 2021, for a two-day tour in Accra. A short but colourful ceremony was held to receive the trophy at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra.
The Sales and Marketing Manager of Total Petroleum Ghana PLC, Laurent Gouy and the Brand Ambassador of Total Ghana Stephen Appiah were at the airport to officially welcome the AFCON Trophy to Ghana.
Other dignitaries present at the ceremony were the Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, Evans Opoku Bobie, the President of the Ghana Football Association Kurt Okraku, former Black Stars players Derek Boateng, Sam Johnson and the current assistant coach of the Black Stars Maxwell Konadu.
Speaking at the event, the Sales and Marketing Manager of Total Ghana, Laurent Gouy, said Ghana was very excited to be receiving the trophy and was hopeful the trophy will be returning to the country after the end of the tournament on February 6, 2022 in Cameroun.
The tour made stops at the Head Office-Total House, Independence Square and selected Service Stations namely, Oxford Street - Osu, Liberation Road (37) and Darkuman Junction.
This gave the Ghanaian public the opportunity to take pictures with the trophy and participate in various football activities involving the Brand Ambassador, Stephen Appiah.
Building on the formidable unifying and universal power of football, TotalEnergies has created the “TotalEnergies Football Together” program to bring fans together, celebrate and share the passion of football on the African continent. The aim is to whip up excitement among participating countries before the tournament commences on January 9 in Cameroun.
Since 2016, TotalEnergies has been a significant partner of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the continent’s governing organization for football. The TotalEnergies group has signed on as title sponsor of 10 events, including the African Cup of Nation, which has been renamed the TotalEnergies AFCON.
Ghanaians are hopeful that Black Stars captain, Andre Dede Ayew will lead the side to victory for the first time in four decades.
