TOTAL GHANA LAUNCHES THE MCKINGTORCH FOOTWEAR POP-UP SHOP – RECYLING PLASTIC WASTE INTO FOOTWEAR
Total Ghana in collaborations with Mckingtorch Africa launched the Mckingtorch Footwear Pop-up Shop at the Accra Liberation Road Total Service Station. The footwears were displayed in the 100% solar-powered Total Sunshine Kiosk.
MD of the affiliate Mr. Eric Fanchini was eager to promote the Mckingtorch Africa initiative, which is a startupper project that focuses on recycling plastic waste into sustainable footwear. By sponsoring its development, Total strives to reduce plastic waste in the country, whilst encouraging job creation amongst the youth.
HDPE and LDPE plastic waste are recovered from the streets, offices, homes, and community buy-back programs to serve as raw material for the sandals, which are made in Ghana. They are easy to wear and wash, and the sole can be replaced when worn out.
Indeed, the CEO of Mckingtorch Africa, Makafui Awuku is resolved to do more with sustainable communities and cities which the plastic waste falls under.
