TOTAL GHANA DONATES TO THE SENIOR CORRECTIONAL CENTRE
In line with our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Total Petroleum Ghana PLC and its Staff embark on an annual charity project to express our love and concern for the orphaned and less privileged in society.
On April 1 2021, a donation was made on behalf of Management and Staff of the Company to the Senior Correctional Centre also known as Borstal Institute located in Accra. The Centre was instituted by the Government of Ghana and is under the authority of Ghana Prisons Service to train and correct the behaviour of children between the ages of 12 and 18 years who have been convicted of criminal and civil offenses.
It is the only institution in the country that currently caters for young offenders and juveniles. The centre provides training for a period between Six (6) months and Two (2) years in various vocational trades like Welding, Vulcanizing, Tailoring, Carpentry, Craftsmanship, Auto electrical and mechanical and General Electricals. The children are also given tuition in ICT and Moral Education. The Centre organizes counselling sessions for inmates on regular basis.
The items that were donated included bags of rice, gallons of oil, sacks of maize, sacks of sugar, sacks of gari, boxes of tin tomatoes, packs of beverages, detergents, toiletries, and several pairs of slippers. They also received COVID-19 preventive items like nose masks and hand sanitizers.
The donation made was worth Ten Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC 10,000) and it was to support the Two Hundred and Sixty-Seven (267) children currently at the correctional centre.
The officer-in-charge, receiving the items expressed her sincere appreciation to the Management and Staff of Total Ghana and promised to use the items donated towards the welfare and development of the children at the Centre.
