HSSEQ STAFF FORUM 2026
On Wednesday, 7th January 2026, the training room at TotalEnergies Marketing Ghana PLC became more than a meeting space; it became a platform for reflection, shared accountability, and renewed commitment to health, safety, security, environment, and quality (HSSEQ).
From 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., employees came together for the 2026 HSSEQ Staff Forum, led by Hannah Afriyie, HSSEQ Manager. A major highlight of the forum was the recognition of 2,080 days without a significant safety incident; a milestone that reflects nearly six years of collective diligence, accountability, and proactive risk management. Key achievements of 2025 were presented and more focus was given to the Objectives for 2026, emphasizing on the global objective of Zero Fatality. The session blended learning with engagement, creating a space where safety was not only discussed but truly understood and shared.
At the heart of the forum was a refresher training on anomaly reporting, facilitated by HSE Officer Anthony Yeboah. Through clear explanations and practical examples, participants were reminded that anomalies are any situations or actions that deviate from established standards, even when there is no immediate consequence. Emphasis was placed on the importance of timely reporting, noting that all anomalies must be logged within 24 hours via the TERApp, as they often represent early warning signs that could prevent incidents or accidents.
The session also clarified the different categories of HSE events, distinguishing between anomalies, near misses, and incidents/accidents. By breaking down these concepts and relating them to real-life scenarios, the training helped staff better understand what to report, how to report it, and why every report matters in protecting people, assets, and the environment.
Learning continued in an engaging way through an interactive quiz competition. Each department nominated a representative, and the room quickly filled with excitement as participants tested their knowledge on anomaly identification and reporting standards. The friendly competition reinforced key lessons while encouraging collaboration and active participation across teams.
The forum concluded with an insightful session on Retail Network HSE Invariants. Participants were introduced to these non-negotiable safety barriers that play a critical role in risk prevention at service stations. From petroleum equipment such as double-walled tanks and overfill protection devices, to safety equipment including firefighting systems and emergency stops, and environmental controls like wastewater treatment systems and oil-tight forecourt slabs, the discussion highlighted the importance of understanding, maintaining, and respecting these safeguards.
This achievement underscores the effectiveness of key safety practices such as the consistent use of Stop Cards, adherence to established procedures, and a culture that empowers employees to speak up and act when safety is at stake.
Guided by the 12 Golden Rules, TEMG continues to integrate safety, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence as it delivers reliable energy solutions to support Ghana’s growth.
