TOTAL PETROLEUM GHANA PLC HOLDS CAREER FAIR AT UNIVERSITY OF GHANA

As part of its commitment to support youth development, Total Petroleum Ghana PLC in partnership with the University of Ghana Career & Counselling Centre (UGCCC) on Wednesday 13th July 2022 organized a career fair at the Cedi Conference Center of the University of Ghana, Legon. This is the first career fair organized solely by Total Petroleum Ghana for the Students of the University of Ghana.

The aim of the TotalEnergies Career Fair was to provide details about the various job placements opportunities available within the Company, offer a unique platform for the students to learn about the Company's recruitment processes and help the students to check that they are developing the right work-related skills to enable them build great careers.

Present at the Career Fair were Professor Gordon A. Awandare, the Pro Vice-Chancellor responsible for Academic and Students Affairs, Dr. Mrs. Bridget Ben-Naimah, Director of University of Ghana Careers & Counselling Centre, Madam Edwina Paintsil, Career Placement Coordinator for University of Ghana Careers & Counselling Centre, Lecturers, Management and Staff of University of Ghana, Students of the University of Ghana, Management of Total Petroleum Ghana PLC and representatives of the various departments within the company.

In his opening address, Professor Gordon A. Awandare, expressed appreciation to Total Petroleum Ghana PLC for providing the platform for both the University and the students to engage the Company. He urged the students to fully utilize the opportunity that was given to them. He said there was the need for closer cooperation among the universities and employers in order to ensure seamless transitions at all levels in order to build a strong workforce that will drive a thriving economy.

In a speech read on behalf of the Managing Director, Mr. Bright Dokosi, the Human Resource Manager said, “Total Petroleum Ghana PLC is part of the TotalEnergies Group, one of the world’s largest broad energy companies that produces and markets fuels, natural gas, and electricity”. He added that the Company had been operating in the country for almost 70 years with a wide network coverage of over 260 Service Stations spread across the country and is the only Oil Marketing Company in Ghana that is listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange.

He indicated that as part of the Company’s Corporate Social Responsibility, Total Petroleum Ghana PLC helps to develop the Ghanaian youth through its flagship initiative, The Young Graduate Program which targets fresh university graduates and provides them with an eighteen (18) month training opportunity and capacity building. He added that Twenty-Five (25) young graduates had so far benefited from this great initiative since it was introduced in 2016.

He also talked about the Startupper Challenge which provides mentorship and financial support to young entrepreneurs with the most innovative ideas to help actualize their projects. He said the 3rd Edition of the Startupper Challenge was recently held with three young entrepreneurs receiving financial support of Seventy Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC 70,000) each.

Regarding job placements and opportunities available within the Company, Mr. Bright Dokosi disclosed that the Company makes room for Thirty-Five (35) National Service Personnel annually and creates internship opportunities for Forty (40) students from various Universities in Ghana each academic year. He urged the students to take advantage of the career opportunities available at Total Petroleum Ghana, including national service and internship programmes and assured that the company will continue to offer its employees different career and personal development opportunities to build their skills and knowledge to enable them contribute towards the growth of the economy.

He further advised the students to take their studies seriously, develop their skills and adequately prepare themselves for the job market. He also thanked the management of the University of Ghana, especially the Careers and Counselling Centre for the partnership in organizing the career fair for students to engage with the TotalEnergies brand. He encouraged the students to take advantage of the Career Fair to learn more about their career paths and the career options that are available.
